A Note From our Founder
Spencer Rudolph Founder/Owner/Operator
Through our business we have become responsive partners in an intimate and mutual relationship with our land using ancient, proven principles of agricultural diversity. Observants of seasonal change through the rhythms of work and life we have become careful students of the natural slopes, vegetation and soil structure. Our work being our birthright, is the most pleasant of responsibilities. We live where we work and work where we live. Organization can print values one should follow to be a respectful steward of the land but most will still tread the line of destruction with petroleum based farming and the constant use of “organic” sprays. For this we tie ourselves to no organization, as the natural world’s health can only be defined by the farmer's moral character. They may print the values needed to protect the land but they cannot provide it.
The food we grow we see as a cultural product. Farm knowledge passed from one generation to the next as a natural succession. From the old to the young, a passing of passion and order. A passing of moral responsibility, good husbandry and kindness. A culture that passes on pride in good workmanship along with a passing of agricultural disciplines that have nothing to do with livestock or crop production.
Our aim as a small farm is for economic independence and stability through diversity. To be far more productive than consumptive. To grow in a way that generates rather than degrades. To revive a dying culture smashed by the modernization of our food system. A system so technologically advanced yet it could not foresee the consequences it would have, not only on our soil and climate but the cultural displacement of our small farmers. We cannot let our food be produced by technological advancements and economic pressures as this leads to the degradation of moral character through quantity over quality.
